The two-week Great American State Fair runs June 25 through July 10, with more than 100 states and institutions represented in booths.

The fair represents a significant test of whether the semiquincentennial commemoration can serve as a unifying national celebration or becomes another point of partisan division. With nearly half of states not sending official delegations and artists declining participation, the event has already faced notable resistance ahead of its opening. The Great American State Fair, a two-week exposition celebrating the nation's semiquincentennial on the National Mall, will feature prominent conservative advocacy groups including America Prays, the American Principles Project, and Focus on the Family. The event is organized by Freedom 250, a nonprofit established by President Donald Trump and his allies to coordinate the country's 250th anniversary commemoration.

Freedom 250 was established as an alternative to America250, a bipartisan organization chartered by Congress a decade ago to prepare for the anniversary. The fair runs from June 25 through July 10 and is described by organizers as transforming the National Mall into "a living showcase of America's past, present, and future." More than 100 states and institutions will be represented with booths, according to a Freedom 250 release.

What the Right Is Saying

Freedom 250 spokesperson Rachel Reisner defended the event's inclusivity in a statement: "Americans have been arguing at the dinner table for 250 years and somehow still showed up to the same Fourth of July party. We're not stopping now. The Great American State Fair, July 4 fireworks, the whole spectacular once-in-a-generation 250th anniversary blowout — it's happening, and your neighbor with the opposing bumper sticker is going to be standing right next to you, probably enjoying it just as much."

Reisner added: "Freedom 250 is a celebration for America — which, last we checked, includes all of it. Every single star on that flag. See you there."

Steve Gatena, founder and CEO of Pray.com and one of the lead organizers of America Prays, said in a statement: "PRAY.COM is honored to be participating in the Great American State Fair as an opportunity to connect with people from across the country. Our mission is to grow faith and cultivate community through technology, and we look forward to sharing resources that support prayer, encouragement, and spiritual well-being."

Trump announced on Truth Social his plans for a June 24 rally: "It will be special at every level — A Rally to end all Rallies! We don't want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep, we've told them all to stay home. All we want is you, me, a few speakers, and the Greatest Music ever played, the same Music you have listened to for years!"

What the Left Is Saying

Representative Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) said in February that the administration was working to "hijack the country's 250th anniversary and sell access, hide his donors and rewrite history." Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) launched a probe into Freedom 250's fundraising practices also in February.

Critics have charged that Trump has removed bipartisanship from the monumental anniversary commemoration. At least six states — Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Oregon — will officially not be sending delegations to the fair, NOTUS reported on Thursday. Freedom 250 said it is bringing in other institutions from those states.

In May, several musical artists dropped out of planned performances at the fair after learning of its ties to Trump, prompting the president to announce plans to hold a political rally instead, scheduled for June 24.

What the Numbers Show

The Great American State Fair runs from June 25 through July 10 — a 16-day duration.

More than 100 states and institutions will be represented with booths at the fair.

At least six states have officially declined to send delegations: Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Oregon.

Several musical artists withdrew from planned performances in May after learning of the event's ties to Trump. In response, Trump announced a separate political rally for June 24.

The Bottom Line

The fair represents a significant test of whether the semiquincentennial commemoration can serve as a unifying national celebration or becomes another point of partisan division. With nearly half of states not sending official delegations and artists declining participation, the event has already faced notable resistance ahead of its opening. What remains to be seen is whether Trump’s competing rally on June 24 draws sufficient attendance to signal broader political support or underscores the partisan fractures surrounding the anniversary celebrations.
