Updated at 12:31 a.m. ET with new vote counts. Several of the night's most closely watched races remained too early to call early Wednesday even as Democrats were projected to win control of the House and Senate. The figures below are from NBC News' live results pages as of 12:31 a.m. ET; the percentages are NBC News' estimate of the share of the expected vote counted so far, and leads can change as more ballots are reported.
In Maine, Democrat Troy Jackson led Republican Sen. Susan Collins 52.6% to 47.4% (274,241 votes to 247,196) with an estimated 68.2% of the expected vote counted. NBC News lists the race as too early to call. CBS News described it as a toss-up earlier in the night and noted Maine uses ranked-choice voting, which may take longer.
What the Right Is Saying
In Nebraska, Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts moved ahead of independent Dan Osborn, leading 48.3% to 45.9% (239,256 votes to 227,503) with an estimated 59.6% of the expected vote counted; Osborn had led in NBC News' earlier count. Rogers said when he cast his ballot Tuesday morning that he felt "really good about where we are today," according to CBS News.
In Montana's Senate race, Republican Kurt Alme led independent Seth Bodnar 50.9% to 35.7%, with Democrat Alani Bankhead at 11.6%, with an estimated 37.4% of the expected vote counted.
What the Left Is Saying
Michigan's open Senate race is nearly tied: Democrat Abdul El-Sayed had 49.1% (1,301,830 votes) to 49% (1,300,510 votes) for Republican Rep. Mike Rogers, with an estimated 53.7% of the expected vote counted. At the Michigan Democrats' party in Detroit, Sens. Elissa Slotkin and Gary Peters expressed confidence that the party's success would extend to Michigan, NBC News reported. El-Sayed told reporters earlier that he is "bracing for all outcomes" if Republicans challenge the election results, CBS News reported.
In Michigan's governor's race, Democrat Jocelyn Benson led Republican John James 51.2% to 47% with an estimated 49.9% of the expected vote counted.
What the Numbers Show
In Kansas, Democrat Cindy Holscher led Republican Ty Masterson 50.4% to 49.6% in the governor's race (544,715 votes to 535,508) with an estimated 93.3% of the expected vote counted. In Arizona, Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs led Republican Andy Biggs 57.9% to 40.5% with an estimated 68% of the expected vote counted.
NBC News showed no votes yet reported in Alaska's Senate race, where Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan faces Democrat Mary Peltola, or in Nevada's governor's race between Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo and Democrat Aaron Ford.
The Bottom Line
None of these races had been projected by NBC News at the time of its 12:31 a.m. ET update. PoliticalBytes reports a winner only after a major news organization projects one, and will attribute every call. Vote counts and leads are partial and will change. This story will be updated.
